Often it is necessary to work with individual photos, particularly heritage prints, that sometimes need to be retouched before they are ready to incorporate. Below is an example of a heritage photo I repaired.
Some Process Details
If you have older photos you would like to use, I can repair them, being careful to retain the original feel and ensuring that the subjects still look as they should.
When working with older photos, I prefer to maintain the charm and character of the original print. For instance, the amazing photograph below of the European cobblers was taken in the 1800's and it now hosts many blemishes. One could spend hours retouching it, but my intention was to clean it up enough so it would not detract from other photos in the artwork.
In many cases I build onto or take away from an image to create a more interesting blend with the neighbouring photos. The fades and blends can be in varying degrees of transparency which will produce ghost imaging coming through the layer from the image below or above.
Sometimes we want this effect and other times we don't.
Here is an example of removing elements to prevent the ghosting through for a smoother blend.
Below shows an example of where I added more to the image in order to not have the hard line from the edge of the original photo ghosting through the foreground. This allowed for a more pleasing positioning of the images and a smoother connecting of the two photos.
I put a lot of my heart and soul into each piece.
Always an adventure.
Never boring.
